Clara's Island

Clara’s island was inspired by a 3D map that someone named Tsabo6 did and loaded it on Deviant Art. I was quite impressed by it and so made some variations of my own. I do not know who Tsabo6 is, but his mapping is amazing. The island is a massive variation of terrain. Between the tall pointy mountains to the north to the sandy beaches on the south, it’s an interesting place to visit.
Like the other islands, Clara’s island was raised during the Great Calamity and possesses ruins left over from the anti-diluvian era. All the stone buildings are built from granite with massive blocks that are fitted so closely together than you can’t slip a paper between them. They’re located on the left side of the map on the circular plateau. Behind that is the cave leading into the mountains.
The entire cave sequence with the spooky haunted ship was totally an accident. I took the inspiration from some artwork I wound on Pinterest such as Long John Silver - cover Issue 3 by Mathieu Lauffray which I thought was the creepiest looking shipwreck which I used for an idea of the Festering Secret. So, I took it one step further and make it haunted.
Much of the other cave ideas came from concept art that Johan Lagesson did on Artstation called Pirate Cove Environment. Years later, Clara has turned it into a private hideout. A colony has been established along the southern beach to maintain the place, though the colonists don’t know of Clara’s hidden cave. The large waterfall and lake provides a vast fresh water source while the plateau provides some farmland, but the colony still needs regular shipments in from the empire to keep going. Clara has her steam powered sailing ships coming and going regularly, but the empire knows nothing of the island’s existence or its location.
Clara wiped the records from Lighting of the Sky’s logs after Drake’s death. It’s considerably further out into the Atlantic, beyond the empire’s purview. Over the years, she discreetly migrated a lot of her treasure here for safe keeping along with many of her other possessions, to keep them out of the empire’s reach.
