# Tropical Island

Overview: tropical island is on the far eastern edge of Vaskaran-controlled waters, sitting at the border between the Caribbean and the open Atlantic, close enough to War Consortium territory that its garrison functions as an early-warning post and a line the Consortium doesn't casually cross. It is not a chokepoint; nothing has to pass through it. Its value is what it produces and what it watches.

The island is administered by Admiral Uriah "Devil's Grin" Dougla, known along the coast as "The Wencher of Claw Blight.

Geography Mountainous, forested interior with a river/valley system running roughly north to south

A jagged, multi-peninsula coastline — reaching claws of land and reef that make casual naval approach difficult without local knowledge

Small offshore islets and reef fields scattered along the coast

Positioned on the Caribbean/Atlantic border, within reach of the War Consortium's island holdings

Function

The island runs as a food-growing and livestock operation supplying the Vaskaran navy. —It's not a mine nor a smuggling hub. Its population is largely farmers and animal tenders, working land that the mountains and river valley make fertile.

It also serves double duty as a forward military post, watching the border with the War Consortium and, by extension, whatever might come in off the open Atlantic. The Empire doesn't need to hold this island for trade or transit they need it held, period, and they need someone reliable and unbothered by isolation to hold it.

Governance

Douglas runs the island as part military necessity, part personal fiefdom-and the distinction barely matters to the Empire, because they approve of the outcome either way. He keeps order. He keeps the quotas met. He keeps the border quiet. The court has no incentive to look closely at how he does it, and no intention of moving against him as long as the results hold.

His rule over the locals is transactional rather than cruel: meet your quotas, and Douglas leaves you alone. There's no oppressed population waiting for liberation here, which matters narratively, since it means Clara or her crew would have no clean moral case for raiding this particular island. It's not a target. It's just a place someone unpleasant happens to run competently.
