Blackstone Island: A Brief History

Once a thriving jewel within the Caribbean Hegemony, Blackstone Island was renowned for its lush landscapes, rich resources, and strategic importance. In the early 23rd century, the island was a pivotal stopover for pirate crews and trade vessels, hosting bustling markets for exotic goods and daring escapades. However, in A.D. 2335, imperial forces, under the leadership of Admiral Alejandro Cortez, launched a brutal campaign to conquer the island, effectively ending its autonomy. The fall of Blackstone Island marked a significant shift in regional power dynamics. Admiral Cortez established a military stronghold, and the island was placed under the control of Cordia Rave in A.D. 2345, an ambitious member of the imperial council. With this new governance, Blackstone became a critical defensive outpost against Confederate or Hegemony incursions and rival empires, effectively fortifying the empire’s northern flank.

Blackstone Island is blessed with a plethora of coveted natural resources essential for a steam pirate society:
1 Tanglewood: A rare type of wood with a dark, twisted grain that is both incredibly strong and resistant to rot. It is highly sought after for shipbuilding and crafting durable, ornate furniture. Its unique properties make it a favourite among pirates for constructing vessels that can withstand the rigours of the high seas.

2Volcanic Glass: Formed from the island's geothermal activity, this glass is exceptionally sharp and can easily be fashioned into weapons or tools. Pirate crews value it for making exquisite blades and traps, while it also serves as an essential component in crafting lenses for spyglasses and other optical devices.

3 Storm Spice: A rare herb that grows in the rugged highlands of the island, Storm Spice is known for its potent stimulant properties. Used in a variety of concoctions, it can enhance physical performance and alertness. Pirates often trade it on the black market for a hefty profit, as it is rare but greatly desired.

4 Bangalight. The island is also a source of this unique metal that’s considerably stronger than iron or steel but much lighter, which is perfect for making cannons and ship building to keep them flying.

Garrison Details:

The garrison stationed on Blackstone Island is substantial, comprising approximately 1,200 imperial troops. Led by Colonel Javier Morales, a fiercely loyal and ambitious officer, the garrison operates out of Fort Vanguard, a heavily fortified compound located at the heart of the island.

Built from local stone and reinforced with Bangalight, the fort boasts impressive ramparts, blending seamlessly with the rugged landscape. The garrison is equipped with heavy artillery, providing both defensive capabilities and the ability to project power against potential pirate raids. Troops are trained in naval warfare and ground combat, making them capable of both pursuing enemies on the open seas and defending the island’s shores.

Regular drills and patrols ensure that the soldiers are always battle-ready, with a network of lookout posts established throughout the island to keep watch for incoming threats.

Despite the fortifications, tensions are high between the garrison and the pirate population, with skirmishes erupting regularly.
